Last Feelings
Silas - Episodes 1 and 2 |
Image Gallery Description Deals with the misguided practice of exporting "orphans" (many of whom were not orphans at all) from Britain to other parts of the then British Empire, notably, Australia, New Zealand and Canada, after the Second World War in the belief that these children would benefit from a new start. Unfortunately, many of these children fell into the hands of abusers, most notably at a home run by the Christian Brothers at Bindoon in Western Australia, where the boys were used as slave labor to build a new religious seminary. -- This 2-part mini series epitomises the Australian saga of Bert and Lily's transportation from Liverpool England to the labour camp and sheep station servitude in New South Wales -- At the time the mini series went to air in 1992, the issue of what happened during the Child Migration Schemes of the 1950s had been largely swept under the carpet. A huge national and international controversy followed its broadcast as thousands of victims of the schemes broke the cone of silence that had enclosed them for nearly half a century. This television film helped publicize the suffering of these children, which continues into adulthood. This Australian mini-series was one of the most controversial ever screened, with good reason! Notes 2-DVD discs in this Set - Total running time 205 minutes Cast & Crew
